The original Organ was installed in the late 1800’s by the Clough & Warren Co., of Detroit, Michigan. The organ utilized the famous Austin universal wind chest system, which enclosed the mechanisms of the organ in a large air tight chest that is able to be walked into. The organ was composed of three, sixty-one note keyboards and a thirty note pedal board, totaling 1,859 pipes and 17,000 pounds.
The organ was rebuilt by the Casavant Fréres organ company of Quebec. The installation was started in 1956, but was never finished until 1987. Once completed, the organ contained 66 ranks, totaling 3,467 pipes. It still holds its rightful location at the front of the sanctuary in its large chamber and leads music for services here at First Presbyterian.
